As before for the Olympic Games in Beijing when dragon boats already carried the Olympic Torch in Hong Kong and Macau, the Olympic Flame now was carried again by a dragon boat. This time into Vancouver for the start of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
The False Creek Dragon Boat Team leading the dragon boat flotilla and the BCS crew that was part of the flotilla have been competing in IDBF Championships and have been developing the sport through the IDBF for a number of years. False Creek hosted the 1st IDBF Club Crew World Championships in 1996 and were the 2006 Club Crew World Championship Open 200m Champions and the Premier Mixed Champions in 200m, 500m and 2000m.
On the 30 September 09 another chapter was added to the history of Dragon Boating when the Dragon Boat Festival and its associated Dragon Boat Races was added to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s (UNESCO) the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity Representative List.
After Mr Chang Faqjiang retired as IDBF President the Congress elected Madam Xiao Min as new President.
The 4th Vice-President also changed from Mr. Benjy Ramos to now Mr. Ahmad Donyamali
Regarding futures Championship Regattas the bids from Hong Kong for the 2012 World Club Crew Championships and from Iran for the 2013 World Dragon Boat Racing Championships were accepted. For more information please monitor http://idbfworldchamps.com.
The IDBF is now WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) compliant. Paddlers from Elite Athletes Pool have to expect “out of competition” testing starting from on January 2010. More information can be obtained from the Documents page..
